New York Mets Should Give Jordany Valdespin and Juan Lagares More Playing Time

Today on Yahoo! Sports, I talked about the topic that many New York Mets fans would like to discuss: the state of the outfield. After a winter of unsuccessful attempts to acquire a proven Major League outfielder, we were forced to watch Terry Collins mix and match with the likes of Lucas Duda, Collin Cowgill, Marlon Byrd, Mike Baxter, Jordany Valdespin, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Since the start of the regular season, both Cowgill and Byrd have cooled off considerably from their solid production in spring training, while Nieuwenhuis found himself getting demoted to Triple-A in favor of Juan Lagares.

Valdespin has proved he can help the team win, as both his home runs this season have put the Mets ahead for good. However, his production isn’t leading to more playing time, while Lagares isn’t getting a legitimate chance to show what he’s capable of. Due to the inconsistent playing time, the hot start he enjoyed in Las Vegas has gone away.

I make a case that instead of mixing and matching on nightly basis, Collins should choose the three outfielders and let them start every night for the next week or two. Check out my article and let me know what you think!
